Public Space Experiments
HIGH LINE
The movement experiment conducted on one part of the High Line was created in response to Mike Nelson's public sculpture for redundant space and the subsequent essay I wrote exploring the dichotomy between the the history of the area and the high class art that now exists there. |
BUSHWICK
Utilizing PopMaster Fabel’s idea of urban letter writing as a physical score, I incorporated concepts of fitting my physical body into metaphoric societal lines and situations in parallel to the deviant graffiti outside Chez Bushwick. This experiment was also created in relation to Kehinde Wiley’s body of work as it develops a physical relationship and a general tackling of what activating communal space in non-traditional ways, means to me, a young female struggling to define herself while surrounded by social pressures to understand and clarify one’s race. |
